Keeping it Cool at the Water Park

Nothing says summer fun like a day at the water park — and that’s exactly what our Hello Genius kindy students enjoyed this week! We traded our classroom for sunshine, water play, and endless giggles as we headed to a local water park playground for a day of learning through play.

The Excitement Begins

The adventure started the moment the children arrived at school, buzzing with excitement and dressed in their swimsuits and sunhats. The bus ride was filled with happy chatter and songs as everyone eagerly anticipated what awaited them.

When we reached the water park, the students’ faces lit up — the bright fountains, colorful slides, and sparkling splash pads were irresistible!

Once sunscreen was applied and safety rules were reviewed, it was time to dive into the fun. Students raced through sprinklers, took turns sliding down water slides, and giggled as they splashed each other under the spray tunnels.

For some, it was a chance to build confidence as they explored the water features at their own pace. For others, it was an opportunity to make new friends as they played cooperative games, shared space, and waited their turn for their favorite splash zones.

Learning Through Play

While the day was all about fun, there was plenty of learning too! The water park experience encouraged:

  • Teamwork – children played games and helped each other up the slides.

  • Gross Motor Skills – running, climbing, and balancing on slippery surfaces strengthened muscles and coordination.

  • Communication – students practiced asking politely, sharing toys, and cheering each other on.

And of course, the students learned about safety — from staying with the group to keeping hats on and drinking water regularly.

After hours of splashing, sliding, and laughing, we wrapped up the day with a picnic lunch and a group photo. The bus ride back to school was much quieter — many students dozed off, worn out from all the fun!

Back in the classroom, we reflected on our favorite moments. The water slides, spray tunnels, and dancing fountains were the clear winners.

Kids this age will learn to recognize, write, order, and count objects up to the number 30. They will be able to add and subtract small numbers (add with a sum of 10 or less and subtract from 10 or less); this focus on addition and subtraction will continue through second grade.

The power of outdoor play

This field trip reminded us of the power of outdoor play in childhood development — it fosters joy, confidence, and connection. A huge thank you to the staff at the water park for keeping us safe and making our visit so special.

This water park adventure was the perfect mix of fun, learning, and friendship. Days like this remind us that some of the most powerful lessons happen outside the classroom — through shared experiences, challenges, and joy.

We are so proud of our students for their courage, kindness, and enthusiasm. A big thank you to our teachers and the water park staff who kept everything safe and organized, and to our families for supporting these special opportunities.

Trips like this remind us of the joy of childhood — the freedom to play, explore, and discover together. We are grateful to the water park staff for keeping everything safe and fun for our students, and to our parents for supporting these special outings.

We can’t wait for the next adventure, and we know the memories from this splashy day will stay with the children for a long time.
